TOPS IN THE 2009 REGIONAL QUALIFIERS

“What a wonderful year this has been for the CSHA National Foal Competition” ~ L. Sibbitt

President Lisa Murphy:

“We have just completed our most successful National Foal Championship to date!  Congratulations to all the participants, Provincial winners and our overall champion, Aritzia – well done.  The quality of foals was excellent; presenting our judge with some difficult choices. Thanks go to the sponsors and volunteers without whom the Championship would not have taken place.  Kudos goes to Barbara Jackson, the NFC Chair, for all her hard work, to her NFC committee and to all the people who helped on the day of the competitions.  Thank you!”

This was the 2nd time that the Ottawa Valley produced the overall champion in the NFC.  This year it was the gorgeous bay filly, Aritzia by Abke, the entry of Four Leaf Farms.  In 2006, accolades went to the Ikoon daughter, Lexi owned by Jean Casselman. The regional qualifiers were again organized to facilitate Judge Lesley Sibbitt travelling across the country within a span of a few weeks.   This year she logged over 6,000 km to make this event happen.  The babies were handled and turned out very professionally,” said Ms. Sibbitt. “After having travelled so many miles across the country and spending hours in airports, it was wonderful to see the effort that participants put into showing me how much they cared for their foals.  What a wonderful year this has been for the National Foal Competition.”

BC Regional Qualifier –Langley   August 29th

The first in the series of regional qualifiers took place in the heart of the beautiful Fraser Valley at the Thunderbird Show Park Summer Festival Show Jumping Tournament.  What better place to showcase to sport horse enthusiasts the promise of future athletes.

The top placed foal in this division was Sabine and Joachim Arnoldt’s Frodo by Freestyle. Freestyle is the well known foundation stallion of Dreamscape Farm and no newcomer to the North American breeding scene. One of the few Florestan sons in North America, Freestyle is approved by numerous studbooks with many champion offspring both at home and abroad. He was winner of his stallion test in Germany and was showing in Dressage.  Frodo’s dam, Phantasia III (F1), was bred by Jennifer Arnoldt and is by a mainstay of sport horse breeding on the west coast, Pacific Sunset.  Interestingly, Phantasia III is the dam of Fernando III, the 1st Premium foal and winner of the 2006 BC Regional Qualifier.

Alberta Regional Qualifier – Calgary   August 31st

This qualifier, although light in numbers, showcased the exceptional quality of sport horse breeding in Southern Alberta.  The colt that took top honours, Roosevelt by Regardez was out of Ghia, the dam of the 2008 National Foal Champion, Daisy Duke.  Ghia (Gallipoli) shows her qualities as a broodmare by producing top foals from different sires.  Roosevelt was handled by Derek O'Neill for breeder/owner Creekside Farm of Calgary, Alberta.  The superb bay mare, Carnaval Destiny, who earned the top score at the CSHA/AB 2008Mare Inspection at Anderson Ranch, produced a 1st Premium colt in Camelot Carnaval by the young stallion Z Camelot.

We have Silverstar Farm to thank for introducing some very interesting competition bloodlines in the colts Blitz and McFly. Blitz’s sire Clearway features some heavy hitting show jumping prowess from the legendary stallions Capitol I, Lord and Ramiro.  The powerhouse breeding of McFly’s sire, Quinar, features Quidam de Revel, Alme and, again, Calypso I, with Cor de la Bryere on McFly’s dam side.

The 2009 Autumn at Ashland Breeders Show was Ashland Farm’s 4 year in hosting the National Foal Championship qualifier for the Ottawa Region.  A good number of spectators turned out to view this year’s crop of sport horse prospects from the Ottawa Valley while enjoying a lovely luncheon sponsored by Anthony and Tammy Seed and Corby Distillers.  Aritzia was bred via frozen semen from the German based stallion, Abke, who received his restricted sight unseen approval with the CSHA this year. The broodmare, Licorne resides at the family owned Four Leaf Farms in Richmond, Ontario. For the full story on Aritzia please see the announcement, “The Canadian Sport Horse Association Announces Winner of the 2009 National Foal Championship” in the CSHA National Newsletter and at www.c-s-h-a.org .This class appeared to be a great presentation of the offspring of young sires, Chablis Z, Sir Wanabi and Peugeot HPF.  The results for this regional qualifier were as follows:
